Guide to Section 608 - EPA Exams For HVACR Technician Certification

Following is a guide for those who are planning to take the Section 608 Technician Certification exams, mandated by the Environmental Protection Agency. In addition, the reader will find useful data that comes directly from resources published online by the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics. Anyone can access these resources and learn what kind of job market they might expect for heating, air conditioning and refrigeration mechanics and installers through 2016.

Below are some basics about Section 608 to give interested readers an idea of what this EPA ruling is all about. To find more details, visit the epa.gov website and conduct a search on "608." Information can be located under link to "Brochures and Fact Sheets".

  1. Those who handle ozone-depleting substances or refrigerants (chlorofluorocarbons (CFC) and hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFC) and their blends) must adhere to strict guidelines regarding the recovery and recycling of these substances, as spelled out in Section 608 of the Clean Air Act of 1990.

  2. Any individual who uses, recycles, recovers, sells or reclaims these substances must answer to these regulations. Anyone who handles refrigerant must first prove that they are compliant.

  3. A leak of fifty pounds or more in air conditioning or refrigeration equipment requires repair.

  4. Any items destined for the waste stream that contain refrigerants must be handles appropriately, with complete and safe disposal of any refrigerants as stated in the regulations.

Section 608 Certification type is categorized by appliance size:

  • I - small appliances (five pounds or less)

  • II - medium-, high-, very high-pressure appliances

  • III - low-pressure appliances

  • Universal certification covers all three levels

To prepare for EPA exams, candidates can use free or for-fee online guides. A good place to begin before making a purchase or subscribing to one or another preparation tool online is the epa.gov site, which is easily found through a search on "issues EPA certification test." Once the candidate understands what will be expected, they can take advantage of websites that provide opportunities to pracitce the core and Type I sections of this test. However, it is critical to note that the test will change from year to year, staying updated with changes in technology and in the industry. Using a current guide can be confirmed through accessing the Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Institute, the Refrigeration Service Engineer Society and the Air Conditioning Contractors of America, all with websites that provide needed details about current exam requirements. This points to the value that some test-takes may find in purchasing a reliable test prep/exam guide, one that is both current and complete-covering all possible issues that may be tested on the exams.

HVACR Career Outlook

To find out what it means to be certified in HVACR, interested parties should look to the Bureau of Labor Statistics website bls.org. There they will find-as of the time this article was published-that the outlook for this type of career is promising. To optimize opportunities in this field, it is suggested at this and other resources that accredited tech schools and qualifying apprenticeships are part of or precede taking exams.

Technicians who specialize in HVACR should find many opportunities, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, through the year 2016. To see the most recent evaluation of job prospects, visit bls.org.

Environmental health is a crucial issue and will continue to be so indefinitely. This is good news for the planet and for this career field, since government incentives coupled with stricter regulations for commercial enterprises will practically guarantee that HVACR technicians will be kept busy removing old systems and installing energy-efficient systems that can make a significant dent in CO2 emissions and other issues. The same holds true for refrigerant regulations, which will continue to create jobs for technicians needed to upgrade systems to meet current environmental standards. In addition, population growth has not slowed nor does is show signs of abating. Thus, ever more climate-controlled spaces will be created to accommodate more people in homes, businesses and industries around the globe. In addition, system replacement rates have historically been every ten to fifteen years. This natural need to replace old systems will also contribute to high HVACR employment rates. Finally, because new systems will most likely include complex components and require hi-tech tools, do-it-yourself repairs will be minimized. Systems that malfunction or fail will require that an HVACR technician pay a call.

While burgeoning population growth and complicated heating, air conditioning and refrigeration systems that limit do-it-yourself maintenance and repair are not necessarily a desired reality, they are thus far reliable factors for the next 5-10 years at least. This bodes well for anyone with a natural interest in things mechanical and technical, ensuring that any investment of time and money now in Section 608 certification will be well worth it years down the road.

Sammi Jewell isn't an HVAC expert herself but she continues a family tradition of supporting this industry by writing on everything from HVAC supplies like Lennox parts to online resources technicians need to obtain and update certification.

Cisco CCNA, CCNP, and Network+ Exam Practice Questions - ARP, Layer 3 Switches, WPA, and More!

Test your knowledge of vital Cisco and CompTIA certification exam topics with these free questions!

Network+ / CCENT / CCNA Question:

What protocol allows a host to determine the MAC address of another host that is on a different side of the router?

Answer: Proxy ARP.

CCENT Certification:

Briefly describe how a Cisco switch builds its MAC address table.

Answer: The switch examines the source MAC address of incoming frames, then checks its MAC address table to see if an entry exists for that address. If not, an entry is made that maps that MAC address to the port that received the frame.

CCNA Certification:

Convert the binary string 10101010 into a hex value.

Answer: In decimal, that string equals 170; that's AA (or aa, case does not matter).

CCNP Certification / BSCI Exam:

In the BGP best-path selection process, what is the first attribute a Cisco router examines?

Answer: The Cisco-proprietary attribute weight is the first attribute considered.

CCNP Certification / BCMSN Exam:

On a Cisco L3 switch, what command converts a routing port to a switching port?

Answer: The command is switchport. To change a port from switching to routing, run no switchport.

CCNP Certification / ISCW Exam:

Basically, what is a "demilitarized zone"?

Answer: A DMZ is the area between a company's private network ("inside network") and the outside world. Packets going from the inside network to the DMZ and from the DMZ to external networks are generally examined by security devices.

CCNP Certification / ONT Exam:

Name three major differences between WEP and WPA.

Answer: Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP) offers static keys, an easily hacked authentication setup, and is not considered a scalable solution.Sounds promising, right? That's why WPA is a much more attractive solution. WPA uses dynamic keys, isn't easily hacked, and is highly scalable.

Private Equity Certification Program Tips

Completing a private equity certification program can be difficult if you have never completed a training program before.  In many ways it is different from workplace training or university education.  Here are some tips I have for successfully completing a private equity training program.

  1. Manage your time: Time management is essential for successfully completing a training program, especially an online certification program. This is especially important because there is not a professor or boss checking up with your progress making sure you are on track to complete the program.  In a training program you are responsible for your own time management.  This can be difficult if you have not developed this skill.  I recommend scheduling a set number of hours each week you are going to need to complete the training program.

  2. Use All the Available Resources: A common failing strategy is to do as little work as possible before taking the test.  If you are paying for the training program wouldn't you want to get as much value as possible for your money?  The best mindset is to see training resources as products you have purchased and therefore as something you want to get value from, not unnecessary extras that distract you from your test.  In fact, these resources are there to ensure that you pass the test.  Too often I hear participants of certification programs complain that they don't understand how they failed the test.  Then they admit that they didn't go through any of the resources or materials.  Use all of the available resources if you want to ace the test.

  3. Read Over the Study Guide: The study guide is an often overlooked tool for acing the exam.  People go through all the materials and books but then fail the test.  I think this is because many participants read sporadically and then forget some of the lessons by the time they're ready to take the test.  This is why the study guide is essential for acing the test.  If your program does not offer a study guide, I would demand one is created because I really do think it helps bring together all the material you have learned.

I hope these tips will help you successfully complete a private equity training program.

But... many private equity professionals could complete more training and compete better within this competitive industry.

Our team has put together a 100% online private equity training and certification program that provides you with career tools, resume feedback, career coaching, and video training modules. This program is called the Private Equity Certified Professional (CPEP) Designation Program.

Medical Coding Certification - Enhancing Your Job Prospects

Medical coding is starting to become one of the strongest and most stable careers in the country as demand for skilled medical coding graduates is increasing significantly and will continue to grow over the next 10 years. The need for medical coders will rise as the demand for health care rapidly grows. In addition, inquiries made by medical insurance companies and regulators will increase as the number for medical tests, procedures, surgical interventions, and treatments expands.

There are many benefits that come with a career in medical coding. It is a rewarding career with a median annual income of $30,000 to $45,000. Starting pay for medical coders without experience is around $11 per hour and is likely to increase after five years of experience. Most employed medical coders are also given health insurance, paid vacations, and a 401(k) package.

Medical coding is also one of the very few professions in health care that does not come into contact with patients. Most of the time, coders work in clean and comfortable offices of physicians, health care facilities, nursing facilities, hospital finance departments, insurance companies, or research institutions. In some cases, coders work in the comfort of their own homes if allowed by employers. A career in medical coding also offers many opportunities for advancement within the industry as medical coders have the option of specializing in certain fields that may suit their interests, such as cancer and neurology.

Obtaining a medical coding degree and passing the national coding certification exams will enhance job prospects as employers highly regard qualified and credentialed coders. Responsibilities of medical coders are starting to be wide-ranged as health care regulations and paperwork increases. Because of this, employers have more confidence in hiring coders who possess a coding certification with a strong background and formal training.

To be a certified medical coder, you must pass a written examination offered by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA). The CCA (Certified Coding Associate) is an entry level coding certification for recent graduates. CCA candidates must possess a U.S. high school diploma or its equivalent and preferably have six months of experience in the application of the ICD-9 and CPT coding or have completed a formal coding training program.

The CCS (Certified Coding Specialist) is a certification for skilled coders generally employed in inpatient or outpatient hospital settings. Eligibility requirements include a U.S. high school diploma or equivalent and completed coursework in anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, and pathophysiology. 3 years of job experience in hospital-based coding is also recommended for CCS examinees.

The CCS-P (Certified Coding Specialist-Physician Based) is a certification for coders who want to grow beyond coding for hospital settings such as a doctor's office, dental office, or clinic. Eligibility requirements for the CCS-P exam include a U.S. high school diploma or equivalent and completed coursework in anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, and pathophysiology. 3 years of job experience in physician coding services is also recommended for CCS-P examinees.

CCNA Video Training - The Best Way to Study For CCNA

If you have decided to pursue a Cisco Certification, then CONGRATULATIONS!! You have probably made the wisest decision in your professional development. Recent statistics reveal that CCNA certified employees get also 10-15% salary increase, which is a nice salary addition for an individual in this economic crisis.

There are two paths to obtain a Cisco CCNA. The first one requires candidates to take a single composite exam (640-802 CCNA) which covers topics from two Cisco training courses (ICND1 and ICND2). With the second path to CCNA certification, candidates can take two individual exams, the 640-822 (ICND1) and 640-816 (ICND2). Whichever path you decide to follow, you need to cover a quite extensive learning for the CCNA curriculum, so training is essential to guarantee your success.

In my opinion, one of the best choices for learning the CCNA material is to attend an instructor-led classroom training (boot-camp style) which usually have 5-day duration. There are however two major drawbacks for this training choice. The first one is cost. These kind of courses will cost you between $2000 to $4000 which is a considerable amount of money for an introductory course. The second drawback is that classroom-based trainings are quite intensive. During the 5-days of the training you will be "bombarded" with information which will be difficult to assimilate.

So, what is actually the best way to study for the CCNA? In my opinion, the next best choice is to buy a CCNA Video Training. With this study method you can get the benefit of having a visual training instructor teaching you the material from the comfort of your home and without paying so much money. With a CCNA Computer Based Video Training you can train on your own schedule, you can go back and re-study topics that you didn't understand from the beginning, you can get visual examples that will stick in your mind etc. I have actually used Computer Based Video Trainings for my professional level certifications (CCNP and CCSP) and was truly amazed by the results. I have easily passed all exams with scores over 950.

Refrigeration and HVAC Certification Requires Little Time, Nets Great Opportunities

In the olden days of labor and technical careers, newcomer workers started as apprentices on the job. Rather than training in their field at a technical school or college, they learned new skill sets as they went, often working alongside a union worker, a relative, or a friend with connections in the trade. As some labor jobs like steel and manufacturing were shipped overseas, the "art" of many blue-collar professions ceased to be passed on. In some cases, training for blue-collar careers became incredibly difficult to seek out or to break into.

Careers in heating and cooling trades are different, however. New technologies developed in response to environmental legislation, consumer desire to save money on bills, and industry demand spell major changes for this industry. The complex nuances of installing, maintaining, and repairing heating and cooling equipment are now best taught with classroom and lab time. People who enroll in training courses that lead to refrigeration and HVAC certification are ideal candidates for good entry-level jobs and high wages in the heating and cooling fields.

Many technical HVAC schools provide training that leads to certification. Employers value certified students, citing them as the workers best qualified to be employed in the field. Technical training schools typically have faculty and staff who've had significant experience working in the refrigeration and HVAC fields. The instructors at technical career centers are also knowledgeable in the latest heating and cooling technologies and repair techniques. These training schools tend to use hands-on coaching or lab time, allowing students to develop their skills in real-life settings. Upon completing a technologically progressive certification-directed course of training, students will be prepared for the heating and cooling technician job market.

Thousands of American high school students each year spend money on four year liberal arts degrees, only to be devastated when, after graduation, they cannot find relevant employment in their fields of study. This is because while many college programs reinforce strong academic skills, they do not offer training in skills directly applicable to the office or workplace. Many technical training programs, however, offer direct career training and placement. The immediate transition from school to career is what distinguishes many technical schools from liberal arts colleges. Market saturation is another factor affecting the satisfactory employment of students who hold four-year degrees. Not every student can go into his or her field of study, because there are simply not enough entry-level careers in many fields. After completing a technical certification, students are able to enter careers in their fields - and, careers with significant long-term growth potential, at that.

Technical training is also a good option for women who are worried about hitting an income or career growth "ceiling." One of the major reasons the typical woman earns 70-odd cents to every man's dollar is because women forgo labor and industrial careers, seeking instead office or helper careers that tend to pay less. Most heating and cooling certification and training programs have far fewer female graduates than male graduates. However, women who do enter refrigeration and HVAC careers find that they can out-earn male counterparts in office careers; can experience significant wage raises and professional advancements; and encounter opportunities to achieve supervisory or management positions.

Heating and cooling systems have many component parts; some are mechanical and some are electronic. Students enrolled in refrigeration and HVAC schools will learn how these systems are put together, and how each component part works separately and together to enable temperature change or regulation. They also learn how to test systems and repair malfunctioning systems or components. Troubleshooting and diagnostics are important parts of the training. Also essential to the training process is learning how to recycle used or discarded HVAC component parts, which can discharge harmful chemicals such as chlorofluorocarbons (CFC's).

Upon leaving a heating and cooling certification program, students will understand how HVAC systems work, inside and out. Technical schools typically combine lectures with hands-on applications of equipment diagnostics and repair for small, residential systems and large, commercial temperature regulation setups. Career opportunities upon completing a heating and cooling certification range from ballpark A/C systems to office temperature systems maintenance to soda and ice machine repair - and more.

Classroom theory, hands-on training, and career placement set technical schools apart from other colleges. Students learn the critical thinking skills necessary to adapt what they learn in school to workplace situations and new repair issues. Academic and career counseling help students to complete their school experiences. Those students who are invested in their education - including seeking as much assistance from instructors and counselors as possible - are able to discover life-long, real-world success in refrigeration, heating, and cooling careers.

The Refrigeration School, Inc. is a technical school in Phoenix, AZ that offers teaching and hands-on technical training for the refrigeration and HVAC certification. For more information, visit http://www.refrigerationschool.com

Becoming Microsoft Certified

This level of competition presses upon the individual to be better off in their area of competence for such challenging roles. The factor that gains prominence from the whole scenario is certification training.

While considering the available methods to get Microsoft certified, we find classroom training and labs, whitepapers, notes, study guides, course books, dumps, audio and video training/exams, online practice & training tools practice exams, practice tests, and simulators, etc. are what you have to choose from. All of these have their importance in one way or the other, traditional classroom training being the most efficient, of course.

Getting boot camp training for Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS), Business Management Solutions (MBS), System Engineer (MCSE), Database Administrator (MCDBA), System Administrator (MCSA), Solution Developer (MCSD) certifications renders vast opportunities to validate and demonstrate the requisite Microsoft capabilities. Whereas courseware and books help you get detailed perception of 'behind-the-scene' mechanism.

On the other end, online study tools put you into real-time, simulated environment to get assessed on your performance and develop familiarity with actual exam formats. You can choose to acquire any of the exam objectives and then test for it, time and again until you're proficient enough in the field. Plus, some of the good quality products also include exhibits, simulations and explanations on essential points.

Three Reasons to Consider Getting Your Kettlebell Certification

Maybe you're just getting in to kettlebell training - or maybe you've been using them for years. Either way, when you get to a certain point in your training career, it just makes sense to get kettlebell certified. Here are three reasons why you should take the plunge and sign up for your next local cert:

1. You want to further your knowledge and be the best you can be

I thought I knew quite a bit about kettlebell training before I got certified... and was humbled at the RKC weekend. :) Even if you've got experience working in the fitness industry, being around others who have enthusiasm and knowledge in your topic of interest is fantastic - as they say, knowledge shared is knowledge multiplied.

2. You want to teach others

This is probably the #1 reason why people get certified. If you want to teach others how to safely and effectively train with kettlebells, it's a must. Plus, being certified shows others that you're serious, gives you more credibility, lets you charge higher rates... it's just the right thing to do.

3. You want a mental and physical challenge

Several of my own training clients have gotten their kettlebell certification for this very reason... they're ready to take their training program to the next level and they want the mental and physical challenge that goes along with getting their cert.

Now, being RKC certified myself, I'm admittedly impartial to their system. But I can tell you that I gained an incredible amount of knowledge at the RKC weekend and that it was an experience that changed my training career forever.

So if it's time to get kettlebell certified, stop waiting around and just do it! You'll be glad you did. And make sure to keep reading to find out more info about the RKC kettlebell certification system...

To see a video of a workout from the RKC weekend, to learn more about their system, and to get more info, like locations, prices, etc., head over to my Kettlebell Basics blog at http://kettlebellbasics.net/2010/08/04/3-great-reasons-to-get-your-kettlebell-certification/

CCNP Certification Advice - Network Professional

So you want to earn your CCNP. First you are going to have to achieve your CCENT and CCNA and I have written a couple articles on those exams so check them out. CCNP stands for Cisco Certified Network Professional and this exam takes the CCNA to a whole new level. You are required to pass four more exams which include Building Scalable Cisco Internetworks, Building Cisco Multilayer Switched Networks, Implementing Secure Converged Wide Area Networks, and last but not least Optimizing Converged Cisco Networks. These exams all cover their own set of standards for creating a Cisco Network Infrastructure.

The CCNP certification assures the knowledge and the technique which is a must to configure, and install local, wide and global area networks for companies with 500 or greater nodes. With the CCNP training, the network technician displays the know how required for deploying routers, switches, and hubs in a network structure not forgetting the applications it takes to run this hardware.

Becoming CCNP certified is definitely a boost in your resume as it will show corporations that you know your hardware. The best way to learn is to use Computer Based Training (CBT). CBT is a new and evolving methodology of self-paced at home learning. Not everyone these days has the time to sit down and read a book trying to flip through the pages and retain the information. With CBT you are led by an on screen instructor who takes you by the hand and leads you through the entire subject. When watching the CBT DVD or CD it is as simple as inserting the disc and following along just as if you were in a class. The only drawback to CBT is that you cannot ask questions but you can always rewind and go over a section that you misunderstood.

All it takes to achieve a CCNP Certification is the right training in the right format. CBT will absolutely provide that for the IT Training professional.

Joshua Hicks is a CCNA Certified technician that works in the IT department of Self Study Source. He is a graduate of the Self Study CCNA Training program from Self Study Source and is working on furthering his IT career.

PHR SPHR Certification and the Employee Performance Appraisal

Candidates that hold PHR or SPHR certifications have proven the highest level of HR achievement in their field. There is a common HR body of knowledge that is developed by the Society of Human Resources and is tested on the exam. If you plan on sitting for the Professional in Human Resources examination you should have at least 2 to 4 years of professional work experience. Candidates sitting for the Senior Professional in Human Resources exam are required to have a minimum of 6 to 8 years of professional Human Resources experience in which the majority of their working time is spend on HR functions. The topic of management and employee performance appraisals is often tested on the exam and you should be aware of the topic and its function in HR. Instead of performance appraisal, organizations can seek improvement from a much broader spectrum. Performance appraisal is a by-product of a management philosophy that emerged in the late 1950s: Management-By-Objective (MBO). This variation of a machine model was based on the idea of assigning employees numerical targets that matched overriding objectives determined by the organization. Individual performance was measured by the employee's success in meeting these various targets, most of which were quantitatively measured. An annual review rated employees on their success or failure in meeting a number of these precisely defined targets.

By the 1980s, the efficacy of MBO and performance appraisals was in question. Many organizations recognized that the MOB-driven appraisal had failed to deliver its promised success, despite years of trying to improve the process. The MBO appraisal failed as a motivator because people were resistant to and dissatisfied with the process and because both supervisors and employees commonly manipulated the data and the supposed objective evidence to ensure desired ratings and compensation outcomes By the 1990s, organizations had dropped the MBO, but didn't drop the performance appraisals. Believing that appraisal was useful or necessary, organizations continued the annual ritual, in most cases because they didn't know what to do instead. Performance appraisals send messages of distrust, and they suppress the human spirit. Instead of motivating people, they reduce employees to dependent, de-motivated people, who are treated as though they need to be prodded and psyched to put forth their best efforts.

While performance appraisals may have been intended to weed out poor performers, they actually insulted everyone across the board. More than a dozen leading business authors, scholars and consultants have condemned and discouraged the use of performance appraisals, including Peter Block, Philip Crosby, Steven Covey, and the late W. Edwards Deming. Covey calls performance appraisals the bloodletting of today's management. Instead, he urges managers to develop win-win agreements with their employees over performance issues. An unintended consequence of Covey's suggestion is that some employers have simply applied his suggestion to the performance model, placing elaborate performance agreement documents in the personnel file, rather than encouraging, on a personal level, the development of win-win understandings based on trust and communication within a relational context, as Covey counsels.

Deming encouraged all managers to have a spontaneous, unplanned and unhurried three-to-four-hour conversation with each of their employees at least once a year, with the primary goal of listening. These conversations would not be for criticism or performance feedback but to take a broader view of the work and for help and understanding on the part of everybody.

Alternatives to performance appraisal will include these ideas:

An organization, because it is a system, can't be significantly improved by focusing on individuals. Choices of commitment and responsibility must be left to individuals if they are to be meaningful and effective. Less structure and control over the individual employee often will result in greater motivation and productivity. Employees can't be motivated to perform their best, but conditions of openness and trust can unleash intrinsic motivation, spirit and heart-felt commitment to organizational goals. Improving the overall system of the organization yields better results than trying to get employees to improve their individual performance. Organizations can survive and grow only if they are freely evolving systems, where variation, differentiation and diversity are valued as pathways to innovation and improvement.

Video Tutorials Make Learning Easy

Using video tutorials to teach can be very beneficial for those in the process of learning how to use a program like Photoshop for example. It is a proven fact that not everyone learns the same way. You might be a visual learner, whereas someone else might need to hear an explanation to fully understand. Video tutorials that can be made by using a program like Camtasia will ensure that every user's needs are met. Walking through material that is unfamiliar to users can be difficult. In most cases, there will always be one user who has trouble following and needs extra help. By creating a visual aid that is web based, users can review the process at home, working at their own pace.

What could be better than a productive session with users where everyone leaves with a complete understanding of the information you gave them? Using a series of video tutorials is the best way to make sure that happens. If potential customers can follow along with the visual aid by actually doing each step as it is shown they will have a better handle on how to use your product line. With a recorded visual aid, users can follow your instructions on their own, with a recording of your instructions, they will be able to work at their own pace so no one gets left behind.

There are many tools available to help you create video tutorials. Camtasia, a program that was mentioned above, is one such program that is easy to use. Camtasia allows you to make screen recordings that can be supported with an audio track, or narration. It also allows you to use Power Point, Picture-in-Picture and webcam video. Being able to fully show the process makes the use of video tutorials one of the best ways to show your users a process step by step. However, if you have never created video tutorials you might be wondering what kind of work is involved in putting together a visual aid like this one. Like most programs being made today Camtasia was developed to be extremely user friendly. You don't need to be a computer expert to get your video tutorials up and running.

To record your video you need to select 'options' under the tools menu, which is where you will find the capture tab. After finding the capture tab you will want to follow these steps:

-Use the checkboxes to choose your capture options.

-Select "Record the Screen" from the Camtasia window.

-Designate what project you are working on, such as a Power Point

-Start a new project and select what you will be recording, the entire screen or just and area that you indicate.

-Add audio by selecting the appropriate checkbox, a box will appear so that you check the input levels of your microphone.

-After setting your sound preferences click on next, and then finish to start the recording process. During the recording process of your video tutorials you have the option to pause, but that isn't necessary because you can edit out what you don't want later.

For more information on this process look online at http://www.iddl.vt.edu/instructors/camtasia/

Give your users the information they both want and need with video tutorials. It may even increase your sales.

Video Game Beta Testers - Can I Really Get Paid To Play Video Games?

Many people make a living as a video game beta tester. What this means is that they get paid to find bugs in beta versions of upcoming video games. The reason for this is quite simple. For the game company, it is financially beneficial to pay professional game testers to thoroughly test a game and all of it's features so that it meets consumer expectations, and so that it is the best quality that can possibly be achieved.

Generally speaking, here's how you get started: you contact a few game developers & game companies and you persuade them to hire you as a beta tester. In a nutshell, that's basically what needs to be done. Sounds simple, right? Unfortunately though, it is much easier said than done.

The best way to "persuade" these companies and developers is by showing them your overwhelming amount of expertise in the video game industry; things like your skill level as a gamer, your ability to accurately document glitches and bugs, your ability to follow instructions to the letter, and so on and so forth. Occasionally, it means making them an offer they can't refuse, such as testing a few video games for free (GULP). Why test them for free? Well, to get your foot in the door and show them that your a dedicated tester that just loves to play video games. Remember, they are looking for true blue game testers that can be remarkably efficient when testing video games.

When you begin landing video game tester jobs, you are generally sent a free copy in the mail as well as a questionnaire and "report" to fill out. Typically, you'll be given an assignment to complete that either involves beating the entire game from start to finish or playing one level over & over & again. It really just depends on the information the developer needs.

Once you get your assignment, it's time to go to work. Complete the assignment, fill out the form or questionnaire, and then mail it back to the game developer. It's important to be fast with your video game testing and, at the same time, you must be professional as well. With that being said, get the work done quickly but make sure it is done accurately and without mistakes. After they have received your report, you will be issued a check in the mail. Typically, the checks are paid every other week to the video game beta tester.

To be a good game tester, you have to have an eye for detail, as well as the ability to play certain parts of a game repeatedly. At the same time, you have to be able to properly document errors and glitches that you find, which will be done via the bug reporting form.

When it comes to getting started and finding your first video game tester job, there are two paths you can walk. Path 1: You go out on your own and do everything completely by yourself without any help from anyone or anything. Path 2: You research and read through the numerous resources & testing guides in order to find a "tried, tested, and proven" approach that others have achieved success with. Obviously, the path you choose is up to you, but personally, I'd go with option 2. Why? Because video game testing is an industry made up of teams, not solo gamers. Plus, why would you want to "reinvent the wheel" when you can just improve upon it?

There you have it; a quick & simple guide on how to get paid as a video game beta tester.

What Is Video Streaming

Video streaming is the process of converting video and audio into a compressed digital format, then distributing the data through computer networks. This compressed data can be more easily delivered using computer networks because of its smaller size. The video and audio can be live or pre-recorded content, and can be continuously streamed or delivered as on demand content.

Internet video streaming is similar to standard television broadcasting. Software is used to convert video and audio into a format that is suitable for delivery using a computer network. Television stations use special hardware to convert video and audio data into a format suitable for broadcasting. Special computer network transport protocols enable the delivery of multimedia content to the end user ( viewer ) versus using broadcast transmitters to send the video and audio content to individual television sets.

The first step in the video streaming process is to digitally compress the audio and video content. This is required to conserve bandwidth that is used for the delivery of the content. Specially developed software applications, called codecs, are used to compress the video and audio data. Codecs use mathematical algorithms to compress the data. Most codecs use a method of data compression known as lossy data compression. This method allows the compression of the content without losing the quality of the original video and audio content. Advanced codecs require large amounts of computer resources for high definition video and audio data compression. A balance must be established between the compression quality, bandwidth consumed and computer resources used. This balance ensures a quality viewing and listening experience for everyone.

The next step is to distribute the encoded video and audio content. Special server software is required for the continuous distribution of multimedia content. This specialized software can be installed and run on various computer operating systems including: Windows, Linux and Macintosh; in addition to several other computer operating systems. Individual files can be distributed using on demand content delivery, without the need for specialized server software. On demand content can be hosted using a standard website account.

The final step is to prepare the compressed content for delivery. The method of data delivery used to transport the content via computer networks is determined by several factors that include: software used for the compression of the audio and video data, architecture of the computer network used for content delivery and end user requirements. Delivery of this data over computer networks uses special software or hardware instructions to route the video and audio content to the end user. Each computer network transport protocol has its own unique characteristics that make it applicable in specific situations. Methods of multimedia data transport include: HTTP, RTSP, IP Multicast and P2P.

No broadcast license or technical certification is required for Internet streaming, unlike a standard television broadcast station. Standard television broadcast stations are required to have a broadcast license and certified broadcast engineers. The only requirements for Internet video streaming are: specialized data delivery server software, special audio and video encoding software and large amounts of bandwidth. Bandwidth is required for the delivery of the video and audio content to the end user. The formula for determining the amount of bandwidth required for video streaming is: Bandwidth required = data encoding speed x number of desired consecutive users.

All multimedia content is subject to applicable intellectual property regulations. These regulations differ from country to country; however the general rule for audio and video content is the station originating the Internet stream must own, or have a license to distribute material that is covered under copyright regulations. Content that has been released under creative commons, public domain or has fallen out of copyright protection is not subject to intellectual property regulations and can be streamed with no special content licensing requirements.

Video Court Reporting - Why Use It?

If your company or law firm is experiencing its first need for a court reporter, there are several things that will determine the best reporter for your needs, including a reporter's specialty, advanced certification, experience with certain case types, etc. But one aspect of court reporting that applies to all reporting scenarios is whether or not to use video. Traditionally, all proceedings, legal and otherwise, were recorded with a stenograph machine and translated into a written manuscript. But today, most law firms and companies use video court reporting. Below, we look at some advantages of using video court reporting versus traditional reporting.

Video Creates a Visual Record

When you record someone saying something on video, they can't blame a stenographer for mishearing what was said and recording the wrong words, which can be a valuable asset in both company meetings and legal proceedings. Although the wording in written transcripts is ubiquitously trusted, there's no substitute for recording a person's words on video, as it often conveys more than simply what is said.

Video Catches Things that Transcripts Don't

Although written transcripts contain descriptions of nonverbal communication, it's often difficult to capture the nature of such communication in written words. As result, most attorneys prefer to video record their depositions. Despite a person's words, their body language, breathing pattern, eye movements, and a variety of other non-verbal communicators can indicate their confidence or lack thereof in their positions.

Video is Powerful with Juries

If you want to convince a jury that a defendant or plaintiff is a really selfish dullard, get your evidence on video. Despite what people say with their mouth, they typically can't hide their essence of their personality, especially not when questioned at length by a skillful attorney. As an individual's pride, ambivalence, conceit, etc. bubbles to the surface in subtle ways, the jury will see your point.

Video is Excellent for Review

Although the movies often portray an attorney who delves into voluminous transcripts as passionately dedicated to the truth, real attorneys know that there's nothing more exacerbating than wasting time searching through paper transcripts when time is short and a case is on the line. Litigation support services can make a video easily navigable with video/text synchronization, which also makes a video easier to present to a jury.

Video is Valuable for Archiving

When coupled with a written transcript, video offers the most consummate archival record. Instead of simply pulling out a transcript years later to review what was said during a proceeding, you can also refer to a video to better refresh your memory. Originally offered in analogue form, court reporting firms now offer videos in digital form, making them easy to store on computer or disc.

In my research on court reporting firms, I've studied the value of litigation support services, including video reporting.

Become a Certified Nursing Assistant With Free CNA Training!

Free CNA training for those looking to become Certified Nursing Assistants can often be found through employers, such as hospitals, through local vocational training organizations, and through online training. It should be noted that becoming a Certified Nurse requires taking and passing a state exam, which may not be covered by online CNA training. CNA training "classes" are different than training "courses".

The classes usually include hands-on clinical learning and practice, while courses are usually in the form of printed or online courseware. Depending on where you live, hospitals or nursing homes may hold free CNA training in exchange for you working for them. The best way to check is to get your local phone book and call them up. Look up long term care centers and call them up and ask.

Some hospitals have contracts with local community colleges and offer their courses free to the student. There are also CNA/HHA Scholarship Programs, which sponsor free CNA and HHA training for qualified individuals who would like to become Certified Nurse Assistants and/or Home Health Aides (HHAs) and work in long term care. These programs often cover the full cost of training, including the CNA state certification exam. They are usually administered and funded by the states Department of Public Health.

The Armed Services also offer various training programs. Through the Air Force Aid Society Spouse Employment Program, some facilities were recently approved to offer the Certified Nursing Assistant Program in partnership with Spectrum Medical Services. Through this program, the Air Force Aid Society will pay for 10 spouses of active- duty military to become certified nurse assistants. If you are a spouse of an active-duty military member and are interested in becoming a CNA, call the Airman and Family Readiness Center at the AFB.

Going beyond free CNA training, if you're already a Certified Nursing Assistant and have been working in the same facility for some time, particularly if your employer has paid for your CNA classes, they may also be willing to send you back to school to get your RN certification.

Video Game Tester - Skills to Develop

Testing video games is a serious job that takes skills some may find difficult to develop. But if you're a gamer you should learn these skills in NO TIME. So what kind of skills could someone who plays video games to make money possibly need?

Well for one, you're going need to understand computer and video games. These skills are important if you want to become a successful game tester. Gaming companies are serious about who they pay to test their games, without these skills there's a chance you won't even get hired.

Game tester use computers to do the "actual work" portion of their job. So you're going to need to know more than where the power button is, and how to open up the web browser. You must be familiar with the Internet and all it's components., like downloading files, sending emails, and instant messaging.

If you're testing games on your computer, sometimes you have to install certain programs into your computer in order for you to be able to play the game.

So you'll need to learn how to install software into your computer. Fortunately, if you don't know how to do any of these and don't know anyone who can show you, all the information about installing software and any computer issues can most likely be found on the Internet, and with a little research you should have no problem finding it.

Understanding video games shouldn't be a challenge. If your completely oblivious to them, just rent a few games of all different types and play through them. You should have a lot of gaming experience to become a successful game tester.

It helps if you have an understanding of how video games are created. this will help you scope out the little glitches in the game easier. For anyone who doesn't play video games, you can find information on it by simply goggling it. (Don't you love the Internet? :D)

Getting a job as a game tester is pretty hard on your own. You don't have to do it alone though. There are membership communities all over the internet that help you get a video game tester job.

The community I am currently a part of really helped me kick off my new career. They provided me with a "Video Game Tester Guide". This guide helped me change my perspective on a game as a I play it. I notice that now, I'm constantly looking for little secrets and places I don't think I was meant to go to in a game. Helped find those little secret spots in the games I was testing.

The best thing about the community is they have a web page with a list of jobs. I'm ALWAYS on this page. They have over 120 gaming companies listed with jobs for video game testers. Not only that, but they update it daily, adding about 20 new jobs every week. So as you can expect, I'm ALWAYS working.

The best part about it is, the community I'm a part of only charged me once for their services. Services I use everyday for free! This community really helped me become a game tester, which is why I recommend it to everyone.

Business Certification - What Is It?

Business certification is some form of completed, recognized training that you have demonstrated ability to successfully use and perform with skills and knowledge needed in business. Your training could be very diverse and it may take you a few hours to get certified, or several weeks, months, even years. It all depends on the scope and complexity of your training. For example, if you are attempting to learn the entire philosophy of business so that you can become a general manager of other employees, you may go back to get an associates or a bachelor's degree in business. That kind of certification can take about half a year, two years, or four or more years.

You may have to travel to a classroom to obtain business certification. But, more and more people are able to achieve most if not all of their business training on line. The internet has become an extremely popular way to teach and learn for adults. Many adults are already committed to full-time jobs and families. It's difficult for those adults to take the time away. Working from home on a computer is a great way to get recognized training. People can work at their own pace most of the time. They can also work any time of the day or night in most cases. If a live internet event is required, technology makes it easy now. Instructors can host a video conference with students.

Working toward business certification is a great idea for people who with productive skills already and who want to learn how to train or manage others. You'll gain greater workplace recognition. Perhaps you know how to build a house but now you want to learn how to manage a construction company. You'll need to learn basic business theories as well as those specific to your industry. Business training shows others that you really know what you are doing and have been tested accordingly. This recognition is important for many clients. Clients will want the reassurance that you are a trained professional and get a job done correctly.

It's never too late or too early to start learning about business certification. You might be a teenager who sells lemonade from a table in front of your house. With some training, you could learn how to make more money selling lemonade by hiring others in your neighborhood to sell lemonade for you. This would entail that you figure out the best way to control quality and amount of product made for your customers. You would also need to learn about employment laws and how to manage your staff as an effective business manager.

How to Become an Aromatherapist

Has the thought of becoming an aromatherapist ever entered your mind? Many people are searching for a way to turn something they love into a full time job. Can taking aromatherapy courses allow you to enjoy a lucrative vocation?

Many people believe that taking aromatherapy courses are only good for teaching them how to use essential oils safely and effectively for their own personal interests. The truth of the matter is that not only do aromatherapy courses teach you how to mix essential oils for making soaps, candles and other homemade products, they also teach you how to use the skills you learn via the aromatherapy courses so that you too can become a certified aromatherapist.

By becoming a certified aromatherapist you would be receiving the aromatherapy training necessary to work in the wonderful field of Alternative Medicine and enjoy the many benefits that a good aromatherapy course would teach you.

What type of work could you do if you received your certification in aromatherapy?  As an aromatherapist you could work in a spa, consulting clients on the proper choice of essential oils they may need. How about consulting massage therapists on the best massage blend for their clients who are stressed out, or suffer from headaches.

If you wanted you could also open a retail store of your own and sell essential oils. If you have received your certification in Aromatherapy you would be much better able to assist your customers than the fellow working down the road in a natural health food store who has no aromatherapy training.

Does it matter which aromatherapy courses you take?  Yes it matters. You would need both a Level I and Level II Aromatherapy Course in order to become certified as an aromatherapist. You must be sure that the courses offered meet the standards required by the National Association for Holistic Aromatherapy.  Be sure to check the syllabus for any aromatherapy courses you may be interested in and make certain that they meet the standards necessary.

As a certified aromatherapist myself, I can't tell you how much I enjoy working with people everyday and teaching them how to use essential oils safely and effectively. I definitely recommend that you search the Internet and find a good, affordable aromatherapy course that you can learn from at home in your spare time.  Adding extra income to the family budget is always a plus and you will see for yourself how great it is to take healing back into your own hands.

The Importance Of OSHA And UL Certification For Telephone Headsets

As corporations realize greater productivity savings by providing headsets to their employees, it is vital to choose products that achieve greater efficiency and ergonomic benefits to both telephone-dependant and telephone-intensive workers as well as meet or exceed the benchmarks for safety as defined by government and private organizations. Guaranteeing that all headsets in use are compliant with these standards insure an organization is not liable for any headset related injury arising from technological or environmental situations out of your control.

The Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA), Part 1910, Subpart S, governs the safe limits of noise exposure employees can be subjected to within their work environment. These regulations have a direct impact on telephone headset products because the telephone headset is worn by the user and is directly coupled to the human ear.

In call centers or telephone-intensive job functions, most employees are on the telephone for up to eight hours per day. OSHA believes that a person can be safely exposed to a continuous noise level (like dial tone) of 85dBA for eight hours without adverse affects. Since speech is not continuous, an average voice signal of up to 94dB will comply with OSHA exposure limits.

To achieve a safe level of protection, compression circuits have to be incorporated within the receive path of the telephone system or the headset. This is usually achieved with the compression circuits contained within the headset amplifier. Very few telephone manufacturers build in this high-level compression circuitry into their systems, since the exposure to noise levels is usually less in terms of time and duration with the use of a handset.

The major manufacturers of telephone headsets insist on employing this stringent level of compression in order to meet the requirements of OSHA. Many times, offshore importers and manufacturers opt to use a less expensive form of protection that only guards against excessively loud audio spikes. Known as maximum acoustical limiters, these less effective circuits will attack any noise louder than 118dBA, but do nothing to protect against exposure to voice louder than 94dBA. Under these conditions, users subjected to long term excessive acoustic noise exposure could suffer a hearing loss.

The risk of long-term damage to the agent's hearing, worker's compensation claims, lawsuits, or OSHA fines being levied for non-compliance far outweigh the savings of procuring lower cost products.

Additionally, since all telephone headsets conduct electrical circuits, via the use of power from the telephone set or from the batteries of the headset amplifier, Underwriter's Laboratories (UL) certification and compliance should also be recognized. Special anti-static and anti-shock circuitry should be integrated into the headset microphone and amplifier to protect against harmful electro-static discharge (ESD) that may occur in very dry or electro statically charged office environments that consist of non-treated carpeting or fabric-covered acoustical panels. UL maintains a listing of headset manufacturers and their products that meet or exceed their certification standards. Any UL listed products will be marked with the certification on the product or product packaging. Again, the risk of worker's compensation claims or lawsuits resulting from an ESD incident can be costly in to corporations providing headsets to their employees.

The headset manufacturer of the products in your organization should be able to provide documentation from both OSHA and UL stating their product certification standards. Additionally, both the manufacturer and distributor of the products you purchase should carry adequate liability insurance to cover any damages resulting from the use of their products under normal circumstances.

The headset manufacturer should also have acoustical and electrical engineers on staff who are responsible for obtaining and maintaining these certifications for both OSHA and UL. The major headset manufacturers recognize this responsibility to their customers and have sophisticated Research and Development engineers on staff working to integrating the latest technological advancements into both present and future product lines.

With the philosophy of filing frivolous lawsuits, you need to be sure that the products you use in your office or call center meet the government standards that are meant to protect you and your employees.

Presentations - What's the Difference Between a PowerPoint Slide and Handout?

One of the most common problems with PowerPoint presentations is slides that are loaded with information, way too busy for the audience to see. When I try to offer feedback on that problem in my workshops, very often, participants reply that they have to be that detailed because they're also serving as a handout. If the presenter simplified the slide, then the handout would be too simple, which might not make much sense a week or month later if the audience member referred to it.

This creates a dilemma. If your visual on the screen is simple -- which it should be -- then your handout is probably not detailed enough to be an appropriate takeaway. But if you design your visuals so they will have more detail to beef up your handouts, then your slides will be too busy to be effective.

Here's the best solution to that dilemma: don't make your handouts replicas of your slides. Create a separate document for your handout. That document -- whether a notebook or report or what's referred to in the corporate world as "the deck" -- has all the detail. But the slides projected on the screen are simple, bullet-point versions of the detail. They serve as talking points -- the key points that would help the audience understand and remember the ideas -- but are not so complex and overdone that they serve no purpose.

Avoid redundancy between your slides and handouts whenever possible. Design your materials in such a way that the audience's focus will clearly be directed to either the visual or the handout (when they're not focused on you!). Let one complement the other, but avoid unnecessary duplication.

And before you start to complain about how that will double your work load, to create two versions, consider this. Be honest, what's the nature of the PowerPoint you're going to create anyway? Detailed, right? Lots of information on each slide. So, go ahead and go with that instinct -- and save that as your handout. Then go through it, editing vigorously until you get each slide down to key, simple points -- and save that as your slide presentation. And to overcome another objection I often hear -- yes, your projected slides should have dark backgrounds and light type to be most visible and professional. But you do not have to print your handouts out with all that heavy ink coverage. In the print box, simply select "black and white" as your option and the background will be white and the type will be printed in black type.

As long as I'm on the subject of handouts, let me offer suggestions on two other fairly common issues. One is the frustration of having the audience focus on the handout when you don't want them to. While it's impossible to control what members of the audience do, you can minimize this by strategically choosing when to pass out your materials. If you hand them out during your presentation, then you can expect all heads to go down and focus on the handouts. So, one option to minimize the audience's attention on the notes is to get them out ahead of time - literally send or email them in advance or else have them set at their seats when they arrive. This allows the group to peruse the materials before the presentation. That way, they've satisfied their curiosity and are more likely to focus on you when you begin. The other option is to offer them after your presentation. You can explain during your talk that there will be a detailed handout available afterward, so they'll be satisfied that they're getting some kind of takeaway.

There is another common complaint I hear often: when audience members read ahead in the handouts. This may mean they see the "bottom line" before you want them to. Or they find something on page five that they'll immediately ask a question about, even though you're discussing page two. One way to minimize this is by following the previous suggestion -- strategically distributing the materials either ahead of time or afterwards. Another alternative is to design your handouts so they're incomplete. Put in some blanks that the audience can fill in as you go along. Purposefully leave out the key information so people won't get it before you're ready to reveal it.

Translator Training Video Platforms - Which Are Valuable?

There are now more translator training video platforms than ever before and new ones are being started every year for this growing industry.  With all of the options out there how do you decide which one is the most valuable for your situation and level of experience?

Here are 4 things to look for in a translator training video platform:

1) How often are the videos updated or uploaded? Typically new videos every month is what would be expected unless the platform already has over 50 total videos.

2) Can participants or members provide feedback to help improve or create new videos on topics of their interest? If so, this is a big advantage as you can help shape how the video platform takes form.

3) When was the video training platform started? Was it just launched? Does the platform look professional? Watching a few example videos from within the platform can help answer these questions.

4) Who runs the translator training platform or association behind the scenes? Is it a multimedia company? translation association? or a training institute? All of these factors are going to change your opinion of how credible, thorough, updated, and practical the advice is.  Our team has found that video put out by colleges for example may be more thorough but also more theoretical making it a bit harder to apply to real life situations.

If you keep these four criteria in mind then you should be able to identify the best platform for yourself or your team.

That being said, most translators can gain an edge within the industry by completing a translator certification program such as the Certified Translation Professional (CTP) Designation.

Evaluating a Spanish Translator Certification Program

Spanish translator certification programs are becoming more and more prevalent as more and more people realize the importance that Spanish translation plays and will continue to play now and in the future. In order to take advantage of all the opportunities brought about by an increase in Spanish speakers, those with a solid grasp of English and Spanish are taking advantage and looking for ways to become translators.

In order to better their prospects for getting business, translators often turn to Spanish translator certification programs to prove their abilities to future clients and employers. Spanish translator certification programs take many forms, but most are geared towards helping you pass various certification tests given by various translation organizations.

The translation industry, at least in the United States, is not governed as tightly as other industries, such as law, medicine, or accounting, and so a lot of confusion has arisen over time about what it really means to be certified as a translator. For other industries like the ones I just mentioned, there are national standardized tests that are rigidly controlled, and these tests must be passed before a person can be employed legally in that industry.

Translation is different. Because there is no body that has the legal right to enforce translation standardization, many people become confused with all the noise from various organizations offering their version of a Spanish translator certification program. Not only can it be confusing to (would-be) translators, but it is also confusing for potential clients.

So what should you look for if you become interested in taking part in a Spanish translator certification program? Well, there are a few things to keep in mind. The first is that although there is no federally recognized organization for governing translators in the U.S., there is a national organization that offers tests for translator certification. This organization is called the American Translators Association (ATA) and is generally recognized by most translators as being the de facto organization for translator certification in the United States.

Most Spanish translator certification programs, therefore, try to give translators enough knowledge and experience to be able to pass the ATA certification tests. There are other organizations throughout the world that offer translator certification, and in order to find them you can do a search for the country you are interested in.

If you are want to become an ATA certified translator, my suggestion would be to look for a Spanish translator certification program that will give you the best opportunity of passing the tests given by ATA. These programs can be offered as university degrees, night school classes, or even online courses. Whatever the method, becoming certified takes a lot of study and a lot of practice, but can reap big dividends throughout your translation career.
